AMANDA HILL, ATTORNEY AT LAW
Amanda Hill has been practicing law in California since 2004. Before starting her own practice, she worked for two larger law firms in Los Angeles with experience in the following areas of law: business, corporate, employment, labor, entertainment, real estate, construction defect, family law, wills and trusts, personal injury, landlord tenant, personal injury, hotel management and takeover issues.
Ms. Hill has extensive experience in litigation including briefs, law and motion, and trials. She has also successfully advocated for her clients in mediations, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.
As part of her Employment Law experience, Ms. Hill has handled various issues including wage and hour, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, discrimination, ADA, Title VII, unlawful business practices, trade secret, breach of contract litigation, and EDD unemployment issues. She has counseled employers in employment law, including labor and union negotiation, personnel issues, workplace privacy, company policy development, documentation of employee performance, and agreements concerning the relationship between employers and employees. She has also conducted business audits to ensure compliance with state and federal employment laws and personnel policies, including FMLA, OSHA, sexual harassment issues, and wage and hour laws. She has developed business programs for employee recruitment, processing, orientation, performance evaluation systems, and employee counseling. She has also designed and facilitated employee training and development programs, including sexual harassment training required by California law.
Ms. Hill defended one of the nation’s largest retailers in the largest California employment law class action litigation. She was a member of the top caliber trial team, and during the litigation she supervised a large staff of over 50 attorneys and paralegals in discovery and trial preparation. She has also represented private sector employers in collective bargaining agreements and negotiations with labor unions.
Ms. Hill is passionate about helping her clients achieve their legal, financial, and personal goals in the areas of Family Law and Estate Planning. She has vigorously represented clients in Divorce and Child Custody matters, but she also helps clients with developing Estate Plans to assist clients in asset protection and distribution. She has tailor made important documents depending on each clients' situation and needs. Some of the important documents Ms. Hill has prepared for clients include: living revocable trusts, wills, advanced directives, durable powers of attorney for health care, and financial powers of attorney.
Ms. Hill has represented numerous clients in matters involving Landlord and Tenant issues. She has successfully protected tenants from wrongful evictions and intimidation. Adversely, she has advised landlords on complying with California's stringent and tenant friendly laws. She has represented clients at government mediations, and successfully negotiated settlements on behalf of both landlords and tenants.
Ms. Hill has valuable experience working in the prosecutors' office prior to representing criminal defendants. In her practice, she has successfully defended both misdemeanors and felonies. She has persuaded prosecutors not to press charges against her clients, negotiated outstanding pleas, and had cases dismissed by judges due to her courtroom demeanor, relentless persistence, and advocate skills. Though trial is sometimes the best route, Ms. Hill has been able to get outstanding results for clients early in the process in order for the client to avoid the expense and anxiety of trial.
Ms. Hill is originally from Oklahoma. She attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, California for her undergraduate studies. At Pepperdine, Ms. Hill was a member of the Debate Team, Dean's List, and Academic Scholar. She also spent a semester abroad in Spain and Costa Rica, and she spent a summer in Japan.
For law school she attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill School of Law. At UNC Ms. Hill excelled as a member of the Dean's List and Executive Board Member and Editor of the North Carolina Banking Institute Law Journal. She received awards for her pro bono work. She also chaired the North Carolina Banking Institute Seminar featuring the American Bar Association President and FDIC Board of Governors Chairman.
Prior to law school, Ms. Hill worked in the Office of the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Office in Washington D.C. While in law school, Ms. Hill worked in the United States Attorney's Office and District Attorney's Office.
